No ads or
spyware tech
Your ad-blocker can take a well deserved break on DevCapital: We don't force ads in your face.
The reason is simple: Ads are spyware.
The current internet advertising model is broken. It disrupts your browsing experience by serving intrusive ads that interrupt your content consumption and then sell your browsing data to data brokers to profile you for future adverts. The result is a constant battle between users and ad blockers, and advertising and spyware tech.
It doesn't have to be this way.
The extensive tracking of user behaviour, often done without explicit consent, raises serious questions about data exploitation. Many users remain unaware of how their personal information is collected and utilized, leading to a lack of trust in online platforms.
Moreover, advertisers frequently target vulnerable demographics, exploiting their circumstances for profit through manipulative tactics like clickbait and fear-based ads. This undermines informed decision-making and contributes to a broader erosion of trust in digital platforms.
We don't subscribe to this model.
We do however use Google Analytics, but that's only on this frontend site, and only to analyse user behaviour so we can refine our navigation and content based on real world browsing activity. We do not - ever - share your browsing activity with any other third party. You can validate this yourself simply by checking the page source code. There's no Facebook tracking pixels, no HotJar watching your every mouse move; there's no thousands of "trusted partners" - in fact there's only two cookies and they're entirely internal.
We also use external providers to support user authentication using the OAuth2 protocol - we allow you to log in as a worker using your GitHub account and as a recruiter or employer using your LinkedIn or Salesforce account. This provides convenience for you in seamlessly logging into our site and reduces our potential attack surface in that we do not store a password hash for your account, which also improves your own account security.
What information do we get from OAuth logins?
But of course, our business model relies on recruiters and potential employers paying us to access our search feature. You are in full control of your own privacy, and you can limit access to your full name, contact information, profile picture and work history in a number of ways.
